1. Taddy Podcast API

TLDR: Taddy API is the best-in-class API for podcasts. It saves you from having to build the infrastructure needed to keep an up-to-date index of all podcasts and constantly check these podcast feeds for new or updated episodes. It has a free tier but if you want all the features (like transcripts and webhooks notifications) you will need the paid version.

TLDR: Authentication is trickier with this API, but once you have it set up, it gives you information on all podcasts and episodes. It is also 100% free.

3. Listen Notes Podcast API

TLDR: Listen Notes has great documentation and is a well-built API. But, there are 3 main drawbacks with the Listen Notes API:

1) It is quite expensive for what you get.

2) As per their terms, unless you are an Enterprise customer, you are not allowed to save any information you get from their API on your servers, which will lead to you making a lot more API requests (and therefore paying more).

3) Listen Notes only provides transcripts for less than 1% of episodes in their directory. They do provide another paid service called Listen411, which you can use to get the transcript for any episode.

4. Spotify Podcast API

TLDR: Spotify is one of the fastest-growing podcast players and a lot of podcast creators add their podcasts to Spotify and are therefore accessible through the Spotify API. However, the main drawback is that you need to be aware of the Spotify API Rate Limits or require every user that uses your app to Login with their Spotify account (so that every user has their own Rate Limit).

TLDR: Apple Podcasts is the largest podcast player and therefore most podcast creators want to be listed on Apple Podcasts. You can get details on all podcasts on Apple Podcasts via the iTunes API.
