FAQs - What is Taddy?

Taddy

What is Taddy?

Taddy allows you to publish your comic to multiple apps. That means you only have to upload your comic once, and it will be published on Inkverse and Mihon!

What is Inkverse?

Inkverse is a community-focused webtoon reader app that we are building ourselves! Find out more in the Inkverse section below! And you can download it here: https://inkverse.co/

Are you adding more apps to publish to?

Yes! We’re in the process of reaching out to comic platforms to allow us to publish with them. If you are building a comic platform and want to partner with us, we’d love to chat! Just email [email protected] to get started.

Do I retain my IP rights with Taddy?

Yes! When you upload to Taddy, you are in total control of your content: you keep all your IP rights, you can publish to as many platforms as you want, and you can remove your content from Taddy at any time.

Will I have to stop posting on Webtoon or Tapas?

Not at all! We encourage creators to publish in as many places as they can, so they can reach the most readers.

Is Taddy a Webtoon competitor?

Not really. We want to create an environment in which creators own the distribution to their readers rather than locked into any big comic platforms. We were inspired by how podcasts work: when someone makes a podcast, they release it on many platforms at once, like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc. That’s why we encourage creators to keep publishing your comic on big platforms as well as Taddy.

Are you adding any more features to Taddy?

Yes, we just finished our Patreon integration (which allows only your Patreon backers to view episodes your mark exclusive to them) and we will built out our website integration (which will allow you to create a website for your comic and host it on your own domain) next.

Can Taddy help me earn money for my comic?

Yes, we built a Patreon integration which allows you to offer exclusive content just to your patrons. In the future, we plan to launch a “FastPass” system. We built this to complement the Patreon integration we have to allow readers who are willing to pay to get access to your latest episodes but don’t want to commit to a monthly Patreon subscription.

Do I have to pay to use Taddy?

Nope! Taddy is completely free to use. Our business model is to help creators earn money and take a percentage of the new revenue we help generate.

Can I upload NSFW content?

Depends on what you mean by NSFW! We do not allow uncensored nudity and gory violence. However, we’re a lot more lenient than, say, Webtoon, and when it comes to nudity we just require creators to censor uh…. sensitive areas. For more info, check out our content policy.

Can I advertise where I upload NSFW content?

Absolutely! If you upload NSFW bonus content to your Patreon, for example, please feel free to promote that on Inkverse by adding the details to the end of your webtoon episodes.

What are Taddy’s image dimensions for comic uploads?

To upload your comic you will need four images:
  1. Cover artwork (1920 x 2880px)
  1. Banner (1080 x 642px) — used for in-app promotion
  1. Thumbnail (600 x 600px) —  used for in-app promotion
  1. Creator avatar (1200 x 1200px)
For episode art we’re quite flexible in terms of image dimensions. We chop up large uploaded images on our end and convert them to high-quality webp images. Our goal is to keep image quality high so your art looks great and loads fast!

What’s the difference between genres and tags?

When you upload to Taddy, we ask you to select up to three genres. We also allow you to write in your own tags, providing suggestions like “enemies to lovers” or “fake dating”. The tags tell your reader what your comic is about and what it contains — it’s a window into what they can expect when they read your comic and helps with discovery.

Does Taddy have an API?

Are you a developer looking to make a webtoon app? Every comic published on Taddy follows this open-source comic format. This means you already have a bunch of great webtoons when you launch your app. Taddy also has an optional developer API that you can use to help you create a podcast or webtoon app.

Where can I report bugs or ask questions about Taddy or Inkverse?

You can email us at [email protected], or you can jump into the #ask-staff thread of our Discord server!

Inkverse

What is the difference between Taddy and Inkverse?

Taddy is the website for comic creators to upload their comics to multiple comic apps. But you cannot reader comics on Taddy. We distribute your comic to apps that have build a tailored experience for reader. We built Inkverse ourselves! You can download Inkverse here.

Is Inkverse open-source?

Yes! If you care about comics and would like to contribute to Inkverse’s development , please see here.

What are you planning for Inkverse?

I am so glad you asked! We want Inkverse to be a community-focused webtoon app: a place for people to read and discover new comics, bookmark their faves, make lists of comics, and connect with other readers and creators. Right now, you can’t talk about webtoons on webtoon apps — you need to go to Reddit or Discord to discuss the comics you love. We want to change that. The webtoon fandom needs a dedicated community space, and we’d like to provide that with Inkverse. If you want to know more, check out our roadmap! https://inkverse.co/updates/our-roadmap

I created an account for Taddy — do I need to create another one for Inkverse?

Yes. In the future we’re going to link Taddy and Inkverse so that you can ink your Inkverse and Taddy creator profiles, but you need to create a separate account when you download the Inkverse app. In order to help us link your accounts in the future it might help if you use the same email address as you did for Taddy!

What happens when I subscribe to a comic on Inkverse?

When you subscribe to a comic, you’ll get a notification when the creator uploads a new episode.

How do recommendations work?

Recommendations on Inkverse work like mini-reviews. If you really love a comic, you can recommend it by selecting the keywords that you think describe the comic (eg: iconic, inspiring, moving) and writing what you enjoyed about the comic in the text box. These recommendations are then displayed on the comic’s information page! For example, here are the recommendations for I’ll Keep Your Secret…

How does Taddy work in super technical speak?

When you upload your comic to platforms like WEBTOON or Tapas, you upload it directly to their website, and users can then read your comic exclusively through their respective apps. Taddy works a bit differently. You upload your comic on Taddy's website, we then distribute your comic using an open-source comic specification called Schema Structured Syndication (SSS).
The benefit of using an open-source specification is that no one tech company owns this standard. It is an open standard that anyone can use, and since it is an open standard, comic apps like Inkverse and Mihon know how to display your comic, regardless of whether Taddy was used to distribute your comic or you self-host your own comic.
Example: Surviving Beauty uses Taddy to distribute their comic. They uploaded their art on Taddy’s website, and an SSS feed is created for their comic. Click on that link, it has all the details needed for any comic app to display this comic (including the comic’s name, cover art, all the episode art, and creator details).
Inkverse uses the data from Surviving Beauty’s comic feed and displays it on its app like this:
